Coronaviruses were already discovered in the 1960s. However, the novel coronavirus that is currently responsible for the pandemic is a new, previously unknown strain of the virus. This new type of coronavirus is called SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is called Covid-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019).
